NA Standing Committee members agree on amendments to the Labor Code

National Assembly Standing Committee members have agreed on amendments and supplements to the Labor Code at a meeting in Hanoi on Thursday. The revised Labor Code suggests that night overtime pay should increase by 20% and overtime should not exceed 4 hours a day or 200 hours a year.  Female workers should enjoy maternity leave of up to 6 months but are entitled to return to work after 4 months if there is an agreement with their employer. Regarding the price bill, there remained differences over the price stabilization fund. Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue rejected opinions on using the state budget to establish such a fund: “The price stabilization fund is excluded from the state budget and can be sourced from goods and service sales or businesses’ pre-tax profit. Using the state budget to stabilize market prices is unfair because it only benefits enterprises involved”.
