National Assembly questions on social media

(VOVWORLD) -Social media is one of the biggest concerns of National Assembly deputies with nearly 70 million Vietnamese using the internet and 53 million on social media.

During the Q&A session on Friday, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan said: “To achieve the goal of creating a healthy cyber environment, the Ministry has adopted principles for social media users. They are ensuring national interest, defending the regime, safeguarding social order and safety, matching ethical norms, and protecting the rights and interests of users.”

Minister Tuan said his Ministry has asked network providers who have representative offices in Vietnam and established cooperation with the country to abide by Vietnam law, in addition to their own regulations and international rules.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said the government creates favorable conditions for and keeps good management of social media: “We should have a clearer attitude towards social media in line with Vietnamese and international law to pave the way for economic development, ensure social order, and increase national unity.”

The Deputy PM also stressed a determination to build e-government coupled with information security and called for efforts to apply IT in all public services.
