After the Assembly passed a resolution on relieving the President, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said, “Over the past two years, under specific conditions, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has simultaneously held the post of President. Although the task is very heavy, but with a lofty responsibility for the Party and the people, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has devoted himself to national development, excellently fulfilling his duty as President of Vietnam."

“On behalf of the National Assembly, I would like to thank and wish Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong good health to work with the Party Politburo, the Party Secretariat, the Party Central Committee, Party leaders and people to steer Vietnam to rapid and sustainable development,” said Mr. Hue.

Party General Secretary Trong was elected by the National Assembly as President of Vietnam on October 23, 2018. In his inauguration speech, Mr. Trong said he was "both happy and worried" but repeatedly affirmed that he would do his best to live up to expectations of the National Assembly and people.
