New proposal on raising overtime cap draws mixed reactions from lawmakers
(VOVWORLD) - Revisions to the Labor Code, particularly regarding a proposal to raise the annual overtime limit to 400 hours, topped the agenda at Tuesday’s meeting of the National Assembly Committee on Social Affairs.
Some lawmakers recommended that the current overtime cap of 200 hours and 300 hours in exceptional circumstances a year should remain. Others supported the proposal, including Nguyen Ngoc Phuong from Quang Binh province.
“The 300 hour limit should be applied only to hazardous jobs. Other people can work more than 300 extra hours if their health allows,” Mr. Phuong said.
Advocates say that reducing working hours is a current trend, given the pace of technological growth.
