Nguyen dynasty’s documents affirm Vietnam’s sovereignty

(VOVWORLD) - More than 100 woodblocks and royal documents of the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945), demonstrating Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, are being showcased in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

At the exhibition, which opened on Monday, visitors can view documents and maps published in Vietnam and western countries from the 16th to 19th centuries and Chinese maps indicating that the southernmost part of China is Hainan island. Also on display are objects describing the exercise of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

This is the first time nine woodblocks of the Nguyen dynasty proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos have been made available for public viewing.
