Nguyen Thi Tam wins Vietnam's first silver medal at World Boxing Championship

(VOVWORLD) - Nguyen Thi Tam, the first Vietnamese boxer ever to advance to the World Boxing Championship final, fell short of winning the championship.

Tam lost 5-0 to India’s Zareen Nikhat in the final of the women's light flyweight (48-50kg) category on Sunday evening in New Delhi, India.

She nonetheless made history by becoming the first Vietnamese boxer to compete for a world title. The previous best achievement by a Vietnamese boxer was a bronze medal.
