(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese football team is through to the final of the AFC U23 Championship in China, defeating Qatar in Tuesday’s semi-finals in a dramatic penalty shootout.

With the 4-3 shootout in favor of Vietnam after a 2-2 draw, they become the first Southeast Asian team to reach the final of the competition. Vietnam will now face Uzbekistan in the final on Saturday.
Football fans took to the streets and public places across the country to celebrate Vietnam's historic win.
Vietnam’s State President Office proposed awarding an order to the team for their achievements.
