Overseas remittances to Vietnam reach 9 billion USD this year

The World Bank estimates that remittances sent home by overseas Vietnamese will total 9 billion USD this year, approximately 1 billion USD more than last year. This puts Vietnam among the ten countries receiving the largest amount of remittances, together with India, the Philippines, China, Mexico, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt and Lebanon. According to the WB, Vietnam has seen a considerable increase in the flow of remittances over the past 10 years from 1.34 billion USD in 2000 to over 8 billion USD last year. Despite global economic difficulties, remittances from Vietnamese people living in the US, Canada, and Australia and guests workers in Malaysia, Taiwan, and Japan have grown steadily.
