Party Central Committee discusses personel work, ways to minimize COVID-19 impact

(VOVWORLD) - Senior Party members are gathering in Hanoi to discuss this year’s socio-economic situation and the plan for next year, draft documents for the 2021 National Party Congress, and personnel for the next Party Central Committee.

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong told the Party Central Committee Plenum, which opened in Hanoi on Monday, “It’s necessary to give objective and comprehensive assessments of the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economic recession, and major fluctuations in the world market on our socio-economic development goals.”

He called for “maintaining production and trade activities, generating more jobs, ensuring social welfare, and gradually recovering economic growth to stabilize the macroeconomy and improve the quality of growth, social order and safety, sustainability in socio-economic development, national defense, political stability, and a peaceful environment.”

Also at this plenum, the Politburo will submit for the first time a draft list of nominated candidates for the Inspection Commission of the next Party Central Committee.

Party leader Trong stressed that in personnel work, it is important to ensure democracy, fairness, objectivity and transparency, and called for strict handling of any negative phenomena related to the work

The session will run through this Saturday.
