(VOVWORLD) -Ho Chi Minh City needs to be well aware of its potential, outstanding advantages, position and its important role in the renovation, construction and defense of Vietnam and the southeast region in particular, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said on Friday.

Mr. Trong chaired a working session with Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee and key officials on Friday, which coincided with the 77th anniversary of the beginning of the South Resistance War.
He said that in order to contribute to achieving the goal that by 2030 Vietnam will become a developing country with modern industry and a upper middle income and by 2045 to become a developed, high-income country, Ho Chi Minh City should further step up reforms, exert stronger efforts, and bring into better play its role as the biggest development driver for the southeastern region and the whole country.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: “Effectively apply specific mechanisms and policies that the Politburo and the 14th National Assembly have prioritized for the city to further improve the business investment environment, contributing to attracting and effectively managing and using all resources for development."
"Focus on construction and creating a strong breakthrough in uniform and modern urban infrastructure system; enhancing the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of planning, urban design, architectural planning management, new rural construction planning, urban management coupled with economic development plans, culture, society, and the strengthened posture of all-people national defense and people's security. Actively coordinate with ministries, sectors and localities in the southeast region to build traffic systems to maximize the economic potentials of the whole region and the city,” he added.
The Party General Secretary asked Ho Chi Minh City to pay more attention to the development of culture and society in accordance with the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress of Ho Chi Minh City. Along with that, efforts should be made to improve State management of all levels and build a model of urban government that is truly of the people, by the people, for the people, Mr. Trong said.
