Mr. Chinh was speaking at a Vietnam-Brazil business forum in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday during his trip to Brazil to attend the G20 Summit and bilateral activities.
The PM said he and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva agreed to elevate their relationship to a strategic partnership, which will serve as a strong foundation for closer economic, investment, and trade co-operation between Vietnam and Brazil’s business communities.
To ensure that economic ties are on a par with political and diplomatic relations, Mr. Chinh said the two countries should negotiate a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), an agreement on investment promotion and protection, and an agreement on visas, and Brazil should accelerate its recognition of Vietnam’s market economy status.
Brazil sees substantial potential in collaborating with Vietnam, particularly in high-tech industries, agriculture, energy security, climate change, digital transformation, and South-South co-operation.
Brazilian Minister of Rural Development Paulo Teixeira underlined Vietnam’s importance in the global food and foodstuff production and supply chain and stressed the need for enhanced co-operation in agricultural technology to ensure food security in the global fight against poverty.
