(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference on Saturday to review and learn lessons from responses to recent typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm in the East Sea in 30 years and the strongest to make landfall in Vietnam in 70 years.

He said that the typhoon and its subsequent rains, floods and landslides left heavy losses of life and property, and badly affected the health, life and spirit of the people.
Significant progress has been made in recovery efforts. People’s basic needs such as food and temporary housing have been met in a timely manner. Nearly 4,800 households whose homes were destroyed have been provided with temporary shelter as they await resettlement. Electricity, water, and telecommunications systems have basically been restored, and roads have reopened.
“It is crucial to ensure accurate and timely forecasting to issue early warnings. Leadership and direction must closely follow real-life conditions, all for the benefit of the nation and the people. Top priority must be given to protecting the people’s lives, property, and health, and the State’s assets,” said PM Chinh.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that no one lacks food, clothing, or shelter, children can attend school, patients are given medical care, production and business activities are restored, growth is secured, and inflation is controlled.
Typhoon Yagi left 330 people dead and missing in Vietnam, and caused an estimated 2.6 billion USD in economic losses.
