PM meets top Dutch legislators, wraps up Netherlands visit

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam aims to enhance all-around cooperation with the Netherlands, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during a meeting with top Dutch legislators in The Hague on Tuesday.

Mr. Phuc called on the Dutch parliament to continue supporting and promoting cooperative programs between Vietnam and the Netherlands in the framework of strategic partnership agreements on climate change adaptation and water management; and on sustainable agriculture and food security. He asked Dutch lawmakers to support bilateral trade and investment, push for the early signing and approval of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, and consider establishing a Netherlands-Vietnam friendship parliamentarian group.

Senate President Ankie Broekers-Knol and House of Representatives Speaker Khadija Arib described Prime Minister Phuc’s visit as an important milestone in cooperative ties between the two nations. Arib stressed that the Netherlands is willing to share experience and foster cooperation with Vietnam in water management, sea level rise and climate change adaptation, dyke construction, ship building, and logistics services.

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Rotterdam and urged Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb to help Vietnam in preventing soil erosion, saline intrusion, and sea level rise in the central and Mekong Delta regions.  

After a meeting with Hermen Borst, Deputy Delta Program Commissioner, to discuss cooperation in climate change response, finance, and marine economy, Prime Minister Phuc left Amsterdam for Vietnam, wrapping up a four-day official visit to the Netherlands.
