PM Nguyen Tan Dung calls for flood-resistant housing for the poor

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has praised efforts by the Ministry of Construction and other relevant agencies in piloting a program to help poor households build flood-resistant homes. Dung was speaking at a conference in Phu Yen province on Monday intended to review the implementation of the pilot program in the northern and central coastal regions. The PM said that the program was of great political, social and human significance with appropriate methods of operation, namely State support, community help, while these poorer households strive to move forward. Prime Minister Dung said: “Following the successful pilot program, we will replicate this model in all 14 central provinces in order to help 60,000 poor households build flood-resistant homes. This goal should be achieved by 2015”.

PM Dung asked the Ministry of Construction to promptly submit a proposal on measures to help poor households improve their accommodation and cope with floods. The project will be carried out in the 4th quarter of 2014. Following a government decision, 700 poor households in 14 flood-prone communes have had their houses made flood-protected.

As part of his tour of the central coastal region, PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Monday afternoon worked with Khanh Hoa provincial leaders on socio-economic development tasks. Dung called on the province to adopt incentives to attract more investors in tourism, maritime services, ship repair, and high-tech. He said environmental protection should top the authorities’ agenda to ensure sustainable development. The PM also urged Khanh Hoa to take concrete and realistic measures to remove obstacles for businesses.
