PM orders lockdown of Chi Linh city, closure of Van Don Airport as COVID-19 spreads

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued a directive ordering a lockdown of Chi Linh city in Hai Duong province and temporarily close Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh province after authorities detected 84 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday.

Chi Linh city will be locked down for 21 days, beginning Thursday at noon, following the detection of 73 cases of local transmission of the coronavirus. All schools, entertainment venues, and non-essential businesses must shut down. Travel out of Chi Linh is suspended, except in the case of official duty or urgent need.

The Prime Minister also ordered Van Don International Airport closed beginning Thursday noon. Authorities in all provinces and central cities must review and strengthen their COVID-19 containment measures, particularly at healthcare facilities, schools, industrial parks, and factories. Citizens are ordered to wear face-masks, maintain social distancing in public places, and avoid large gatherings.

An additional nine cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday morning, according to the Ministry of Health.
