PM Pham Minh Chinh leaves for 4th Mekong River Commission Summit

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left for Laos on Tuesday to attend the 4th Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The meeting will be attended by the Prime Ministers of the MRC member countries - Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam - representatives of the MRC’s dialogue partners - China and Myanmar - as well as its development partners, and international organisations within and outside the Mekong region.

Participants will discuss difficulties, challenges and opportunities for the development of the Mekong Basin as well as strategic guidelines for the International Mekong River Commission’s technical activities and partnerships.

With the theme "Innovation and Cooperation for Water Security and a Sustainable Mekong", the summit will highlight the  political commitments of the four members of the MRC in enhancing the 1995 Mekong Agreement and the mandate of the MRC. They will also affirm the principles of enhancing cooperation for sustainable development in the region.
