PM urges drastic reform to encourage fast, sustainable cultural development
(VOVWORLD) - Cultural industries are an important part of the national economy, and the State provides favorable conditions for attracting resources to these industries, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Friday, citing Vietnam’s strategy to develop its cultural industries until 2020 with a vision to 2030.

Chairing the first national teleconference on the development of cultural industries, PM Chinh said Vietnamese culture is the result of thousands of years of national construction and defense by ethnic groups and exchanges with many other civilizations.
The PM emphasized that the development of cultural industries must go along with the promotion and popularization of the image of Vietnam and its people. He highlighted Vietnam’s great advantages, including beautiful and diverse natural landscapes and unique cultural identities of 54 ethnic groups as well as the country’s strong integration into the world.
“Cultural industries have become an important economic sector. Changes are needed in both awareness and action, as well as a breakthrough methodology to make Vietnam’s cultural industries more creative and competitive,” he said.
PM Chinh called for greater efforts to increase cultural industries’ contributions to GDP to 7%.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, cultural industries, which include cinematography, cultural tourism, performing arts, and broadcasting, have made large contributions to Vietnam’s economy, with a combined value of 44 billion USD in the 2018-2022 period.
