President meets outgoing Ambassadors of Sri Lanka and Cambodia

(VOVWORLD) -President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Wednesday received the Ambassador of Sri Lanka and the Ambassador of Cambodia who came to bid farewell at the end of their term.

At a meeting with Sri Lankan Ambassador Prasanna Gamage, President Phuc said Vietnam values the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Sri Lanka. He applauded the Ambassador's activities that have contributed to promoting trade, cultural exchange and cooperation in religion of the two countries. The President thanked Sri Lanka for supporting Vietnam’s membership on the 2023-2025 UN Human Rights Council.
Prasanna Gamage expressed gratitude to the functional forces of Vietnam who rescued and assisted 300 Sri Lankans on board the ship that was in distress in the waters near the cape of Vung Tau, Vietnam, in November 2022. He said that Sri Lanka always supports peace, freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of compliance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Receiving Cambodian Ambassador Chay Navuth, President Phuc said he is pleased to see that the two sides are effectively coordinating in building the Vietnam-Cambodia border of peace, stability, friendship, and cooperation for co-development. He praised the two sides’ joint organization of many activities within the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2022 and the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Chay Navuth thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for helping Cambodia during the Covid-19 pandemic. In particular, Vietnam, as the President of ASEAN 2020 launched important initiatives to promote ASEAN unity and cooperation for effective disease control, he said.
