(VOVworld) – The Steering Committee for the Northwest Region has praised prestigious ethnic people for their contributions to national construction and defense. At a conference in Nghe An province on Tuesday, the Committee said outstanding people in the 5 provinces of  Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have worked closely with local authorities to inform locals of Party guidelines and State policies, encourage their relatives to help safeguard border security, reduce poverty, build new rural areas and be  role models. Bui Thanh Thu, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Northwest Region, said: “The provinces need to boost communications to enhance wider awareness of prestigious people’s role in ethnic communities and to promote their role in local socio-economic development. Prestigious people should supervise their administrations’ implementation of policies towards all ethnic people, and understand their needs and desires so as to give appropriate advice to the Party committees and administrations”.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged the prestigious people to encourage the ethnic people to actively develop production, reduce poverty, fight against social vices and ensure political security and social order.
