(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the banking sector to focus on areas that support growth and exports, generate jobs, and boost the development of high-quality agriculture and SMEs.

The government leader made the request at a conference held by the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) in Ha Noi on Thursday to implement tasks for 2017. He praised the banking sector’s outstanding contributions to the country’s positive results across the fields in 2016, while speaking highly of its policy responses during the year. He said that the monetary policy was regulated in a proactive and flexible fashion and inflation had been brought under control, thereby enabling the regulation of fiscal policies and the prices of essential commodities. Regarding the tasks for 2017, the PM asked the SBV to handle monetary and financial tools efficiently to maintain inflation below 4% and ensure macroeconomic stability, and contribute to realizing the economic growth target of 6.7% as set by the National Assembly.
