(VOVWORLD) - Leaders of the Quad group of countries will seek to extend more than 50 billion USD of infrastructure assistance and investment in the Indo-Pacific, over the next five years, according to their meeting in Tokyo on Tuesday.
This includes aid for developing countries with debt repayment difficulties, humanitarian aid, and support for disaster and epidemic prevention.
The leaders, including Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden and the newly elected Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, expressed concern over the military conflict in Ukraine, and confirmed that principles such as the rule of law, sovereignty and territorial integrity should be observed in all regions.
They also expressed concern over unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East and South China Seas, highlighting the importance of realizing denuclearization on the Korean peninsula, resolving the issue of abducted citizens, and strongly criticizing nuclear and missile development which brings instability to the world.
They also affirmed their unwavering support for ASEAN unity and centrality and for the practical implementation of ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.
