Revised Law on Residence does not restrict citizens’ rights

(VOVworld) – During their 5th session, the National Assembly deputies on Friday discussed the revised Law on Residence, the National Assembly’s Program on Building Laws and Ordinances in 2014, and revisions to the Program on Building Laws and Ordinances in 2013. The revised Law on Residence amends regulations on banned behaviors, conditions for registering for residence in central cities, changing one’s permanent residence, and registering for a temporary stay. The Ministry of Public Security said the revised law ensures the legitimate rights and interests of individuals and organizations, consolidates State governance, and maintains national security and social order. Dinh Xuan Thao, a deputy from Hanoi, says: “The main goal is to create favorable conditions for the people in regards to their residence and enable the State to tighten the management of people’s places of residence. In other countries, certain conditions for residence are set to ease urban overloading. The new regulation seeks to balance the interests of the community and individuals”.

Concerning the Program on Building Laws and Ordinances for 2014 and the revisions to the Program on Building Laws and Ordinances in 2013, some deputies said that priority should be given to laws, which are directly related to the Constitution, economic restructure projects, State apparatus organization and the rights of citizens.

At the end of Friday’s session, National Assembly deputies mustered 70% of votes, approving Nguyen Huu Van, Secretary of Lao Cai provincial Party Committee, to the post of State General Auditor.

In the morning, the National Assembly passed a resolution electing Dinh Tien Dung as Minister of Finance.
