(VOVworld) – A spokesman for Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry says some 100,000 security personnel have been deployed to oversee the annual Muslim Haj pilgrimage at Mecca that begins on Tuesday.

Major General Mansour Al Turki says the security forces are members of an elite counter-terrorism unit, traffic police, and emergency civil defense personnel.
About 3 million people from around the world are expected to make a pilgrimage to Mecca this year. The pilgrimage is obligatory for all Muslims once in their lifetime.
