Seminar seeks to ensure harmony between marine economic development and national defense, security
(VOVWORLD) - The development of the marine economy must ensure both economic and national defense and security goals, according to delegates meeting at a seminar in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Communication and Education Commission, Le Hai Binh emphasized that the Party and State always pay special attention to protecting the national sea and islands, while ensuring a sustainable development of the marine economy.
“The development of the marine economy plays a significant role in realizing the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress. Resolution 36 adopted in 2018 on the 'Strategy on sustainable marine economic development by 2030 with a vision to 2045' aims to make Vietnam a strong maritime nation with a sustainable and secure marine economy," said Mr. Binh.
The Politburo has recently issued a series of resolutions on socio-economic development while ensuring national security and defense for areas adjacent to the sea, he added.
According to Pham Bao Son, Deputy Director of the National University, Hanoi, the sea and islands hold a strategic position in Vietnam’s national defense, economic development, and international cooperation.
“Sustainable marine economic development policies should not only aim to effectively exploit the ocean but also ensure the goals of national defense, security, and territorial integrity. They should also align with the regional and global situation.”
