South, central Vietnam urged to stay on high alert as typhoon Hagupit approaches

(VOVworld) – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat has asked the provincial authorities in southern central region to ensure people’s safety before, during, and after typhoon Hagupit lands in Vietnam.

In a Wednesday online meeting of the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control on Wednesday, he asked the local authorities to keep in touch with offshore fishing boats and instruct them to find safe shelters.
He also demanded vulnerable provinces to stay on high alert to timely evacuate people in coastal areas and in lower areas prone to flash floods and landslides. Typhoon Hagupit is moving faster than earlier forecasts and is likely to hit Vietnam’s south central region Thursday evening.
