(VOVWORLD) - Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani of the Syrian transitional government said Tuesday that recent US sanctions relief should be a step toward their complete removal, which he called the main hurdle to Syria's recovery.

On Monday, the US announced it would provide Syria fuel and electricity for six months to improve access to basic services following the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad by opposition forces. The same day, Damascus International Airport resumed both domestic and international flights for the first time since al-Assad's removal.
