(VOVWORLD) - A play featuring more than 60 talented artists was staged on Saturday in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate 100 years of cai luong (reformed opera).
The show Thay Ba Doi (Teacher Ba Doi), portrays the career of famous musician Nguyen Quang Dai, a guru of cai luong who combined the royal court music, tai tu or amateur music, and classical theater to create cai luong in Vietnam. The play, which stars talented artists of the Vietnam Cai Luong Theater of Hanoi, Tran Huu Trang Theater of HCM City, Voice of Vietnam Theater and Long An Reformed Opera Art Troupe, includes both traditional and modern performance styles.
With script written by Associate Professor and Doctor Nguyen The Ky, the play was adapted to reformed opera style by Hoang Song Viet and Pham Van Dang.
"The play has touched the audience’s hearts. It was very emotional with excellent acting skills of all the actors. The organizers made great efforts in creating a beautiful stage which reminded the audience of an old Saigon," said Tran Bao Chau, a spectator who lives in Ho Chi Minh City's District 9.
