(VOVworld) – The first presidential election in Egypt since President Mohamed Morsi was toppled last July will be held before July 17th to pave the way for a parliamentary election.

Interim President Adly Mansour met Wednesday with the heads of 13 political parties to discuss a controversial new law to regulate the upcoming election.

Disagreements about this law have delayed the election, the second phase of Egypt’s political transition period following the army’s ouster of Morsi. The election was initially scheduled for late February - one month after egypt’s new constitution was approved in a referendum.

Demonstrations are planned to begin next Wednesday and last for 11 days. The National Alliance Supporting Legitimacy, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, says the demonstrations are in response to a call by a movement called ‘Anti-coup youths’ to demand justice for the victims of recent violence and reinstate Morsi in the name of democracy. Dubbed ‘Our roads’, the demonstrations will coincide with the time when presidential candidates must submit their applications.
