(VOVworld) – Britons heading to the Middle East to join the Islamic State have travelled via Canada to avoid detection. During Foreign Office questions at the House of Commons, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said IS recruits are becoming “increasingly sophisticated” in their efforts to avoid detection.

Airlines operating in the UK have been required to apply security checks on teenager passengers, after 3 female students in east London flied to Turkey then to Syria to join the IS. Recent intelligence reports indicate that IS recruits have chosen to get to Turkey via Canada and then to Syria, rather than going directly from the UK.
