A Ukrainian parliament session
(VOVworld) – The Ukrainian parliament has approved a bill to grant 'special status' to 30 areas in eastern Donetsk and Lugansk provinces as part of the Minsk ceasefire terms.
The parliament’s decision, published in the Ukrainian Voice newspaper on Wednesday, offers limited self-rule to rebel-held areas in the east including hotspots like Shirokino.
The parliament approved a list of areas to enjoy the special status in March, but its enforcement was delayed until elections had been held in these areas.
