Ukraine: President criticizes protests as extremist act

(VOVworld) – Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has described recent protests in the country as an extremist act.

Back to work after a 4-day leave, President Yanukovych said that the wave of anti-government protests is a radical act to incite hatred with the aim of toppling the government. He called for the building of a community free of racial discrimination and discrimination against foreigners. Maja Kocijancic, Spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that the EU and the US will discuss financial aid for Ukraine. However, he said that any aid package will be linked with political reforms or appointing a new government.
