UN adopts resolution to crack down on terrorist financing

(VOVworld) - The UN Security Council adopted a resolution Thursday to crack down on financing for the Islamic State, the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front, and other terrorist groups through oil sales. The Russia-proposed resolution was sponsored by all council members, who strongly condemned any direct ỏ indirect trade with terrorist groups in oil, oil products, modular refineries, or transfer facilities.

The Council said such trade strengthens the operational ability to organize and carry out terrorist attacks. The Council called on countries to freeze any relations with those groups and enhance cooperation in fighting illicit oil sales.
