(VOVWORLD)-UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed a new UN resident coordinator for North Korea, his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Monday.

Joe Colombano of Italy assumed his role on Friday, Dujarric said. In his new role, he will support North Korea's commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and lead the UN team's efforts to ensure food and nutrition security, social development services, resilience, and sustainability, and provide data and development management.
Colombano has decades of experience in international relations and political and development issue negotiations. He served most recently as head of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator for China in Beijing.
