UN urges Vietnam to promote its role to address Myanmar crisis

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam hopes that the UN and UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop will coordinate closely with ASEAN and the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar following the principles of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs, in accordance with the will and aspirations of the Myanmar people.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), on Wednesday held a meeting with Ms. Bishop during her working visit to New York.

Ms. Bishop said she will try her best to contribute to bringing peace and stability to Myanmar, adding that the UN supports ASEAN’s leading role in this process.

Showing her appreciation for Vietnam’s position in the UN and ASEAN and its constructive approach to the Myanmar issue, Ms. Bishop said she hopes that Vietnam will continue to promote its role and make positive contributions to the joint efforts towards achieving a comprehensive, long-term solution to the current crisis in Myanmar.
