The State Departments announced Tuesday it had labeled Ahmad al-Hamidawi, the commander of Kataib Hezbollah, a “specially designated global terrorist.” As a result, any assets al-Hamidawi may have in US jurisdictions are frozen and Americans are barred from doing business with him.

Kataib Hezbollah was responsible for a late December rocket attack on a military base in Kirkuk that killed a US contractor, prompting an American response. They were followed by a US airstrike that killed an Iran's most powerful military officer.

The Treasury Department also added many Libyan individuals and entities, who are said to have relationship with the Martyrs Foundation, to the global terrorism blacklist.
