US Army prepares biggest deployment in years to Europe
(VOVWORLD) - The US Army is planning its biggest deployment of troops to Europe, with 29,000 soldiers to take part in a massive force projection exercise with NATO from May to June, General Christopher Cavoli, the commander of US ground forces in Europe, told reporters on Monday.
The US troops will begin deploying in February, moving 13,000 pieces of equipment, including tanks, artillery, and transport vehicles across 4,000 kilometers.
General Cavoli said the Defender-Europe 2020 exercise marks a strategic turning point, after years of US military cutbacks in Europe, which aims to demonstrate the US military’s ability to quickly deploy a large force to support NATO and respond to any crisis.
