US House moves forward with impeachment inquiry

(VOVWORLD) - US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday said the Senate would have no choice but to hold a trial if the House ultimately votes to bring charges against President Donald Trump.

Mr. McConnell said in a CNBC interview that he would have no choice but to take it up based on the Senate impeachment rules. He said if the House were to act, the Senate would immediately begin a trial.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday that Ukraine is ready to investigate any violations of the law but cannot be ordered to do anything. President Zelensky confirmed a phone call with President Trump but did not provide any details. Assistant to Ukraine’s President Andrei Ermak said Ukraine does not want to get involved in US domestic affairs, adding that Ukraine considers the US a friend and partner. He said Ukraine will not get involved in the investigation of the Bidens that is at the center of the impeachment inquiry.

The Kremlin said Monday that transcripts of calls between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin can only be published with the Kremlin’s agreement. The White House earlier released a partial transcript of a July phone call between President Trump and President Zelensky in which President Trump asked Zelensky to investigate former US Vice President Joe Biden.
