US Secretary of State visits Laos to discuss UXO legacy

(VOVworld) – US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Laos on Sunday to discuss the legacy of unexploded American bombs. A US State Department official told reporters ahead of the visit that bilateral ties have improved significantly. He said the US has helped Laos clear unexploded ordnance left over from the war, and has sponsored health and education programs, and that Laos has shown a real interest in US diplomatic and economic policies.

Kerry’s visit comes ahead of a key summit between US President Barack Obama and ASEAN leaders in the US next month.

His next destinations will be Cambodia and China where Kerry will push a peaceful solution to East Sea disputes and ask China to take a firmer stand against the Republic of Korea’s nuclear program
