The US has pledged to double the amount of gas it supplies to the UK.

Prime Minister Sunak said this partnership will bring down prices for British consumers and help end Europe's dependence on Russian energy. He said the UK-US Energy Security Partnership will promote investment in clean energy, exchange ideas on energy efficiency, and reduce the need for gas.

Under the new 'UK-US Energy Security and Affordability Partnership', the US will export 9-10 billion cubic metres of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) over the next year through UK terminals, more than double the level of last year.

Britain and other European countries have turned to the US as they try to reduce their reliance on Russian energy supplies. The US became the world's largest LNG exporter in the first half of 2022, according to US Energy Information Administration data.
