(VOVworld) – Vi and Dam folk song festival opened on Sunday in the Central province of Nghe An with the participation of 22 local art clubs.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung also attended the event. Nguyen Thi Linh is from Hong Son club in Quynh Luu district: "By singing those folk melodies, I feel more energetic after hard working days. Many other local people and I have always wished to preserve these folk songs to the next generations".

This is the second time Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces hosted this event prior to the compilation of documents to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition of their folk songs as intangible cultural heritage. Nguyen Ngoc At, Director of the Nghe An Folksong Heritage Preservation and Development Center said: "The event aims to promote and introduce Vi and Dam songs to domestic and  international visitors. The festival also helps make local sectors, agencies and people more aware of their responsibilities in preservation and development of those folk melodies".
