Vice President honors youths for outstanding achievement despite disabilities

(VOVWORLD) -Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan hosted a reception at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on Wednesday for a group of 50 disabled youths from 32 provinces, who were selected for a program called "Vietnamese willpower shines."

The program honors exemplary young people with disabilities who have overcome adversity and are contributing to their community.

Vice President Xuan said the Party and State have adopted specific guidelines and policies to support, ensure the rights of people with disabilities, and promote their role for social progress and sustainable development. She added: I ask the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to work harder so that better, more practical policies people with disabilities will be in place."

"The Law on Persons with Disabilities was promulgated 12 years ago. We will review it to see if it is appropriate in the current context, and decide what needs to be added or changed to match the current situation and aspirations of people with disabilities in Vietnam and fulfill our commitments to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,” said Vice President Xuan.
