Vietnam and Japan hold dialogue to prevent corruption in ODA projects

(VOVworld) - The Ministry of Planning and Investment has held a dialogue with Japanese partners to discuss preventative measures against corruption in ODA projects. This was the 2nd discussion after the Japan’s suspension of ODA disbursement to Vietnam following Japanese consulting firm JTC’s admission of bribery in return for winning bid. Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung acknowledged the gravity of the problem, saying that both countries would agree on preventative solutions. Minister Councilor of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, Hideo Suzuki, told the conference that he hoped Vietnam and Japan could work out best solutions to prevent similar incidents: “While investigating the case, we hope that the relevant agencies from both countries will cooperate  closely to initiate measures to ensure the  proper use of ODA funding and regain public trust. It’s important to work out ways to prevent similar cases”.
