The vaccine is the sixth brand to be endorsed in Vietnam amid its worst outbreak so far. Vietnam reported a record 3,416 new cases on Thursday, its biggest daily increase. Most of those are in Ho Chi Minh City, the epicentre, which has been under stricter travel restrictions since last week. Vietnam needs 150 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to inoculate 75 million people this year. Vietnam has so far received about 9 million doses, most made by AstraZeneca. Vietnam has recorded more than 40,000 infections and 207 deaths overall - very low figures compared with other countries. Most of those cases have been reported since May.
