Vietnam asks China to respect its sovereignty in the East Sea

(VOVworld)-Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman has responded to reporters’ questions on Vietnam’s response to China’s claim to allow its police force search foreign vessels in the East Sea.

Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi was speaking in Hanoi on Thursday: “Vietnam has voiced its view on Hainan province’s coastal border guard regulation on December 4. Vietnam asked China not to take any activities obstructing normal fisheries operation and Vietnamese fishing vessels’ cooperation in maritime waters within Vietnam’s national sovereignty.”

Regarding several cases of arrest due to participation in demonstration against China recently, the spokesman said that these activities reflect several civilians’ view on national sovereignty and territorial issues. However, gathering in the public shall comply with the law to ensure public order and safety.

The spokesman announced Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s upcoming participation at the 20th anniversary of ASEAN India dialogue relations in India from December 21 to 22. Delegates will discuss orientation for the relations and raise them to a strategic level in an expected vision declaration. Vietnam will join the ASEAN in promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation with India for peace, development and stability in the world.
