Vietnam attends UNSC meetings on security in DR Congo and Golan Heights

(VOVWORLD) -Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, called on the international community to intensify multi-faceted assistance for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) during the UN Security Council’s meeting on the country’s situation on Tuesday.

He expressed concern over the ongoing tensions among political and civil society actors in the DR Congo. Citing the impacts of socio-economic hardship, displacement and COVID‑19, he stressed the utmost importance of addressing the root causes of instability, focusing on countering criminal activity by armed groups, managing resource exploitation and trade, and promoting reconciliation between communities.

On the same day, Vietnam attended the UN Security Council's periodical closed-door consultation on the situation in the Golan Heights. At the meeting, the Vietnamese representative called on the parties to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions and strengthen cooperation to maintain stability in this region. The Vietnamese representative reaffirmed Vietnam's unchanged position on the status of the Golan Heights.
