Vietnam boosts policies on social welfare

(VOVworld) – A national online conference was held in Hanoi on Wednesday to discuss a Poliburo resolution on strengthening the Party’s leadership over social and health insurance up until 2020.

Politburo member and standing member of the Party’s Central Committee's Secretariat Le Hong Anh said at the event that social and healthcare insurances were important policies, the backbone of the country’s social security policy. The intention of the resolution is to mobilize the involvement of the entire political system in realizing social welfare policies with the aim of creating national stability and development. Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the Party Central Committee’s  Economic Commission, spoke  about key points of the resolution ‘Firstly, the resolution aims to implement policies on social insurance and health insurance in a more efficient manner. Secondly, it aims to increase the number of social and health insurance holders, especially voluntary social insurance. By the end of 2020, half of the total workforce will have social insurance and 35% have unemployment insurance. 80% of the population will be provided with their health insurance. Thirdly, it’s necessary to ensure balance between the social insurance fund in the long-term, and the effective use of the health insurance fund.
