Vietnam braces for typhoon Tembin

(VOVWORLD) - Typhoon Tembin is forecast to make landfall from Ba Ria Vung Tau to Ca Mau province on Monday evening. The tropical storm, the 16th to hit Vietnam this year, will likely pack winds of 100 km per hour.

Most localities in Tembin’s path have urged all boats and ships to seek shelter. Residents in dangerous areas have been evacuated.

Ben Tre has completed the evacuation of 22,000 residents to safer places. Mai Thi The of Binh Dai district said: “We are worried to know that Typhoon Tembin will likely hit here. I have taken steps in response to the storm like buying instant noodles and preparing clothing and raincoats.”

Precautionary measures to brace for the storm have been taken by boat owners and households. Fishing boats are seeking shelter and people have been evacuated to storm shelters, schools, or medical stations.

Con Dao island authorities continue to urge fishermen to come ashore to shelter from the storm.

Local resident Dang Thi Le Hong said: “We are advised to evacuate to safer places because when the storm makes landfall, it may destroy houses and cause deaths and injuries.”
