Ambassador Giang made the statement during a talk in New York on Friday with the group of Ambassadors of the EU Political and Security Committee and the ambassadors of several UN members on the world situation and inter-regional cooperation in international peace and security issues.

Ambassador Giang proposed strengthening Vietnam-EU cooperation in the areas of mutual interest including maritime security, water security, upholding international law, and respect for the basic principles of the UN Charter.

He insisted that the EU and its member countries are Vietnam’s most important partners, calling for EU’s specific and practical measures to support Vietnam's socio-economic development, implement the Sustainable Development Goals, and respond to non-traditional security challenges.

The proposed measures include the early ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement, implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) initiative, and removal of the IUU yellow card for Vietnam's seafood products.
