Vietnam, Canada strengthen economic ties
(VOVWORLD) - Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Canadian First Deputy Minister for Global Issues Marta Margan co-chaired the 2ndVietnam-Canada Deputy Foreign Ministerial Political Consultation on Thursday.
At the online meeting, the two sides praised the development of bilateral ties in various fields since the two countries established the Comprehensive Partnership in 2017 and implemented the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement. They agreed to maintain exchanges of high-ranking delegations and strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation as Vietnam is Canada’s biggest ASEAN trade partner and Canada is Vietnam’s third largest trade partner in the Americas. They stressed the need to seize the opportunity of diversified trade and supply chains of countries in the post-COVID-19 period. The two agreed to continue to exchange information and create conditions for the repatriation of their citizens. They pledged to work closely at international forums during Vietnam’ ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020 and non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure.
