(VOVworld) - Vietnam and China convened their fifth strategic defence dialogue in Hanoi on August 10, aiming to narrow differences and create strategic trust for the friendship between the two armies and peoples. Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the China People’s Liberation Army Sun Jianguo co-chaired the event.

Both sides discussed developments in each country, the region and the world as well as issues related to national defence and security. Reviewing the outcomes of bilateral defence cooperation since the fourth dialogue, they discussed steps to deepen their defence ties, contributing to the long-standing friendship between the two armies and peoples.

Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh underscored defence cooperation as a pillar in the Vietnam – China comprehensive strategic partnership while meeting Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the China People’s Liberation Army Sun Jianguo in Hanoi on August 10. Thanh spoke highly of the fifth strategic defence dialogue held in Hanoi the same day, saying that it will push ties between the two armies and peoples forward. He called on the two defence ministries to further strengthen solidarity and mutual understanding in the coming time. The Party, State and people of Vietnam continually treasure the friendship, comprehensive and equal cooperation for mutual benefit with China, Thanh stated.Sun Jianguo, for his part, expressed wish to foster mutually-beneficial ties with the Vietnamese army for the sake of the two peoples.
During their stay in Vietnam from August 10-14, the Chinese delegation is scheduled to visit several units of the Vietnam People’s Army.
